Chasing Lincoln’s Killer Summary

I read Chasing Lincoln’s killer by James L. Swanson

Chasing Lincoln’s Killer is about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. During the Civil War Lincoln was President, which was a very rough time in America’s history. Almost all American’s strongly supported the North, or the South.  John Wilkes Booth was one of those people. Despite the fact that Booth lived and worked in the North, he was a firm supporter of the Confederacy. He hated Lincoln and Lincoln’s policies. That is why he made a group that would plot out how to murder or kidnap the President. This book talks about how he does that. Who does it, and what happens after they get caught.

How to comment?

Hello Readers,

Today I am going to explain how to write a good comment.

First you need to find a posts that you like and want to comment on. Then look as these tips on writing a good comment

  1. You can compliment the writer: Ex. You can compliment them on something they wrote, maybe they wrote a good simile and you liked it. You can say I liked the simile you wrote because…
  2. You can also add new information to their blog. This can keep the conversation going, and it also gives the writer more information that they could add in in a new blog.
  3. Another thing that you can comment to keep a conversation going is to write a connection. For example, maybe a blog said they like a certain soccer team. You can say in a comment that you like that team too, and say why you like them? Then you can ask why they like that team. This leads to the next tip.
  4. The best way to keep a conversation is to ask a question. This question can be about anything. It can be about something that is unclear, you can ask why they chose this topic, and many more questions.

You can do anyone of these tips, but for all of them be sure to do this.

  • make sure nobody wrote the same comment as you
  • be very specific about what you say
  • MOST IMPORTANT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE NO SPELLING OR GRAMMAR MISTAKES

GOALLLLLLL!

Argentina and Germany are tied 3-3 in the last seconds of the most important soccer game in the world, the World Cup. Germany takes a bad corner kick, and the one and only Lionel Messi gets the ball and starts dribbling away. He beats one defender then another and another until he is only has one more player to beat- the goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer. Messi dribbles one way, he fakes the shot and comes back the other way leaving the keeper on the ground and a wide open net!  Messi shoots, and he… GOALLLLLLLLL!

He has done it again, folks. Lionel Messi, the best player in the world, wins Argentina the World Cup. This is going to be remembered as one of biggest finals in history. John, this kid can do everything on the pitch, and we better be watching out for him in the next tournament, and for years to come.

Waking Up To The Crashing Waves

I would wake up in my king size water bed knowing that I was in Maui, Hawaii by the calm waves crashing on the beach.  Soon I would hear a knock on the door calling, “room service,” and a man would come in carrying a tray of breakfast serving generous portions of chocolate chip pancakes, Canadian bacon, sausages, and the best part is that they would all be soaked in maple syrup. Unlike my usual lazy self, on this day I would want to get out of bed, and make it my perfect day.

Right after the luxurious breakfast I devoured, I would take my vibrant red Convertible Mustang for a cruise by the water, feeling the nice breeze on my face, all the way to Napili Beach. http://www.napilikai.com/.  At the beach, I would go snorkeling with the abundant and uniquely colored fish and turtles and, best of all, I would swim with the dolphins.  With the dolphins, you could not only feed them and play catch with them, but, most entertaining, you could ride them, too. This has always been a dream of mine, and is why it would be part of my perfect day.

The day would eventually have to come to an end.  Before it does, though, I would take a private helicopter ride with my friends and family over Mt. Haleakalā. We would fly to the very top and have a picnic while watching the sunset reflect on the ocean water far below. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haleakalā. It would be so pretty that you would never want it to end.

Eventually, I would have to head back to the hotel, but I would think to myself, “Wow, this definitely was the perfect day.”

Of Mice and Men

I recently read John Steinbeck’s, short novel, Of Mice and Men. I was curious about this book because it is a classic and the author lived in California. The story takes place during the Dust Bowl and the main characters George Milton and Lennie Small are migrant ranch workers who traveled to Salinas, California looking for work. George is small and the leader. Lennie, even though his last name is Small, is actually very big. He is like a simple-minded giant and comforts himself by petting soft things like mice, rabbits and even a woman’s hair. The problem is that Lennie doesn’t know his own strength and ends up petting the soft things too hard which gets him into trouble.

George and Lennie talk about owning their own ranch one day. This is their American Dream and it keeps them going during hard times. Lennie says,” An live off the fatta the lan.” “An have rabbits.” George describes their dream ranch in more detail with a vegetable patch, a rabbit hutch and chickens, and how they will be their own bosses. p 14.

Along the way, Lennie and George meet more characters including The Boss, the owner of the ranch they work on; Curley, a tough guy and son of Boss; and Curley’s wife, who doesn’t even have her own name and is beautiful with long soft hair that Lennie touches too hard.

In the end George is faced with a dilemma of protecting his dream and protecting his friend, Lennie. I was surprised by the ending. I recommend this book but I think it would be more interesting to read it in a group or as a class.
